Detailed breakdown of Constellation's episode 7.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary While preparing audiences for its end game, Constellation effectively raises intrigue in episode 7 by making several thrilling revelations. Adopting an original storyline, Constellation goes back and forth between alternate universes/timelines to present a mind-bending tale about consequences, grief, and change. Nearly all Constellation episodes primarily unfold only in one of its two central parallel universes.
Constellation previously established that Henry and Irena know they swapped places with their alternate selves. However, despite knowing this, Irena denies Jo's claims of finding the dead USSR cosmonaut's body in space. This could mean that, like Henry, Irena does not wish to return to her original universe. Therefore, she is trying to bury the truth by shutting down those speaking up about the quantum universe jumps.
Consequently, even though Henry had failed during his space mission and his fellow astronauts had died, he ended up in a universe where everything went well. Meanwhile, Bud tragically found himself in Bud's original universe, facing the consequences of Henry's failures. Since Bud has returned to the universe, where the aftermath of the Apollo18 mission was relatively more positive, he will likely do everything in his control to stay there.
This means that Alice is exhibiting a form of quantum superposition. Jo can feel that two versions of her exist but cannot see both at once because the act of observing the superposition makes it collapse into a more definite state. Similar to the particle, which exists in one of its many simultaneous states upon observation, one of Alice's alternate states gets erased whenever Jo looks at her daughter.
