Constantine 2 Actor’s Update Means Release Date Won’t Happen Any Time Soon

Constantine's Lucifer actor Peter Stormare stated in a new interview that Keanu Reeves isn't 'happy with the scripts' for the sequel.

Reeves portrayed the eponymous character in 2005’s Constantine, which received mixed reviews at the time of its release and has since become a cult classic.

He disclosed that there had been “a lot of back and forth” on the subject. “It’s a lot of back and forth, because… I think Keanu , which I know pretty good, is not so happy with the scripts and usually what comes out of the studios.” The veteran thespian noted that the first movie had become a cult classic before indicating that the studio wanted a bigger spectacle in the sequel. “But to do a sequel, the studios want to have, you know, cars flying in the air. They want to have people doing flip-flops and fighting action scenes.” According to Stormare, Reeves has his own vision for the movie, and it’s rooted in spirituality. Stormare said that the Matrix actor feared that the sequel could stray too much from the core themes of the first movie. Stormare mentioned that Reeves was proud of the character he brought to life in the first movie before implying that the latter would keep on working on the sequel until he was satisfied with it. Per Stormare, Reeves wants his character to be “as grounded as it was in the first one.” He added, “You don’t have to add a lot of action and shootouts. You have other movies. Don’t turn it into big Marvel… Don’t bring in the big guns.
