.AAN, a conservative advocacy group, launched its third ad campaign in recent weeks pressuring POTUS to compromise with House Republicans over the debt limit as the US approaches the brink of default. The $250,000 cable ad buy will air nationally.
The American Action Network announced a $250,000 cable ad buy on Wednesday that will air nationally on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News. The ad also praises House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for passing the Limit, Save, Grow Act — which raises the debt ceiling over the next year either by $1.5 trillion or until March 31, 2024, whichever comes first — with the support of the GOP late last month.
Last week, the AAN launched another $250,000 ad buy on cable networks attacking Biden's refusal to negotiate with House Republicans as he insisted Congress pass a"clean" debt ceiling measure. It also launched a six-figure ad buy after the House GOP passed the Limit, Save, Grow Act that targeted vulnerable House Democrats who voted against the legislation.
“The clock is ticking, and this default will be squarely on the president’s shoulders given his unwillingness to compromise,” AAN president Dan Conston said. “The House has passed commonsense spending reforms that responsibly prevent default and start getting our fiscal house in order. We are out of time for political games.”
Biden met with McCarthy, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell , Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer , and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for a second time on Tuesday afternoon over debt ceiling negotiations. The group did not reach a consensus on a deal, but Biden and McCarthy agreed to appoint negotiators who will attempt to work out a package on their behalf as Schumer, McConnell, and Jeffries step back from the negotiations.
Democrats are also ramping up pressure on Republicans this week. The Democratic National Committee released its own six-figure ad buy Tuesday targeting vulnerable Republicans over the debt limit and tying them to former President Donald Trump's eyebrow-raising comments last week on the nation defaulting.
