Downtown Salt Lake City's revitalization plan agreement with Smith Entertainment Group could be completed soon.

Downtown Salt Lake City 's revitalization plan agreement with Smith Entertainment Group could be completed soon. The self-proclaimed conservative political advocacy group Americans for Prosperity-Utah hopes Salt Lake City Council members will vote it down.

AFP-UT in a Monday statement opposed using taxpayer dollars to fund a new sports and entertainment district, citing concerns that it will indebt the public and stymie economic growth. "This vote is a vote for more crony capitalism in our state capital, plain and simple," AFP-UT state director Kevin Greene said in the statement. "It's been proven time and time again, in cities across the country, that subsidy schemes for sports stadiums do more harm than good for the economy. We're happy to see major league sports interested in coming to Salt Lake City, but hardworking Utahns shouldn't be paying for it from their own pockets.

Activists plan to protest during the city council's vote on the partnership with Smith Entertainment Group.Americans for Prosperity-Utah will hold a protest in front of City Hall in Salt Lake City afternoon to oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to fund a new sports and entertainment district over concerns that it would indebt the public and stymie economic growth.

AFP-UT will gather activists from across the metropolitan area to protest during the city council's vote to partner with Smith Entertainment Group to remodel Delta Center and revitalize the surrounding neighborhood, and on the proposed sales tax increase to pay for it."This vote is a vote for more crony capitalism in our state capital, plain and simple.
