It took 100 years. Businessman Lewis Vetter now leads one of the nation's oldest and most active preservation groups.
The Conservation Society of San Antonio, now 100 years old, has broken with tradition to choose its first male president, the group announced Friday. Longtime businessman Lewis Vetter , 73, was elected and took office Wednesday. The society, one of the oldest and most active community preservation groups in the country, has been instrumental in the preservation of the San Antonio Missions , the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Texas , and other historic structures in and around Bexar County .
He worked as a manager and business advisor at USAA from 2005 to 2018. “I am excited to be the first man to head the Conservation Society of San Antonio as we continue to celebrate 100 years of preserving all that is best and beautiful about our city and region,” Vetter said. “Together we celebrate our successes and those that make it happen.
