The Conroe Independent School District (CISD) has outlined protocols for interactions with outside law enforcement agencies, emphasizing student safety and legal compliance. The CISD Police Department's primary role is to ensure the safety of school campuses by enforcing state and local laws. While immigration law enforcement is not a core responsibility, the department cooperates with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners when requested for official investigations or criminal justice pursuits. If a law enforcement official arrives on campus seeking information or access to a student, an administrator, preferably the principal, should be involved. They must contact the Deputy Superintendent immediately. CISD generally does not remove students from class except by their parents or guardians, unless there's an emergency situation. CISD considers student name, attendance dates, grade level, enrollment status, participation in school activities, and weight and height of athletic team members as directory information, which can be released. However, before disclosing any personal student or family information, administrators must verify the requesting individual's identity, ensure the student's information is not marked confidential, and consult with the Deputy Superintendent or Superintendent. Only the principal, Deputy Superintendent, or Superintendent can determine if a health or safety emergency warrants removal. When law enforcement agencies request student information, administrators must obtain their contact details (name, agency, badge number, phone, email) and inform the official that they will respond within 24 hours after verifying the legal grounds for information release. Subpoenas must be sent to the Deputy Superintendent for review before any response. CISD prohibits outside agencies from speaking with students during school hours without written parental permission or authorization from the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, or CISD Police. Generally, administrators notify parents/guardians if law enforcement requests to speak with a student, unless there's a concern that notifying them would hinder a district matter, pose a danger to the student's safety, or be otherwise directed by the CISD Police.CISD personnel are expected to remain professional and courteous with all law enforcement officers.
