Conor McGregor’s leg buckled just seconds into his UFC 329 bout.
buckled just seconds into his UFC 329 bout against Max Holloway on Saturday in Las Vegas as he suffered a suspected torn ACL after landing awkwardly on his jump kick to open the fight. and While theories ran rampant afterward about whether McGregor was already injured before the fight began, McGregor denied that was the case.
“I was so sharp and so ready for this fight I cannot believe what has happened. The talk of me being off while walking in to the fight is nonsense,” McGregor wrote on X early Sunday morning.
“I was calm, ready, and confident. I am in shock what has taken place. The devil is literally staring at me right in front of my face here. I am not engaging.
I will be at church tomorrow. I will overcome this. I will not be deterred. I will return.
”One theory emerged on social media based off a clip from the broadcast that McGregor was compromised before he stepped into the octagon. A clip of McGregor before the loss — which officially took 69 seconds, ending with him getting booed and then bolting from T-Mobile Arena — showed him hopping one and cautiously putting his right foot down after removing his right shoe with his left foot.
However, it appears he just lost his balance.
“We’re assuming blown ACL,” UFC boss Dana White told reporters afterward. “I’m no doctor, but that’s what I figured when I saw it and doctors think the same thing too. ” In footage posted to social media by White before the fight, McGregor delivered several kicks with his left foot from the locker room and didn’t appear injured during warmups.
White told reporters afterward that “somebody would’ve noticed” a pre-existing injury from videos and clips shared on social media from press conferences and appearances leading up to the fight.
“I mean, I was expecting at least a one-round war,” White said after the fight. “You know, who knew what Conor was capable of as far as cardio or whatever else after a five-year layoff? Well, there you go. ”
