It goes to show how big a draw McGregor is for mixed martial arts, as his involvement after a five-year hiatus has many people paying attention.
The biggest question remains: Can McGregor achieve an epic win in his comeback to the octagon, though? McGregor could be rusty, having not fought in some time. His last appearance occurred at July 2021's UFC 264, where he lost to Dustin Poirier via TKO due to a doctor's stoppage in the first round. That was his second-straight loss, as both came against Poirier.
Now he'll face an opponent he's yet to take on, who has losses, but could be more polished in the octagon. Holloway last fought against Charles Oliveira and lost by unanimous decision at UFC 326.
However, that fight was also this past March, so he's less likely to have that rust in the octagon that McGregor could. Before that, he defeated Poirier, who is a common opponent for both fighters. Holloway got the win at UFC 318 by unanimous decision last July. Many people speculate that, despite being away from fights for five years, McGregor has taken training seriously and will be prepared for the battle.
Others believe he's more concerned with putting on a show and getting his payout, and that Holloway will have an easy Saturday night. Most odds makers and sports books, including DraftKings Sportsbook, are listing Holloway as the favorite, and the top method of victory is by knockout, technical knockout, or disqualification.
One has to think customers are paying big money to see if McGregor still has it in the octagon and can achieve a massive upset over Holloway, or if he'll add a third consecutive loss to hisrecord. Either way, Dana White and TKO have to be quite satisfied with this massive gate ahead of the Vegas event.
