A bipartisan congressional task force is requesting a briefing with Secret Service officials after another attempt on Trump's life Sunday.

A gunman was captured with a witness' help after apparently trying to shoot former President Trump at his Florida golf course . Trump is OK.FILE - The Capitol is seen in Washington, Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, as Congress plans to return to work following a lengthy break.

The bipartisan congressional task force investigating the July 13 assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump is requesting a briefing with Secret Service officials afterTrump is OK, and no injuries were reported by authorities after Secret Service agents fired at the gunman they spotted in the bushes. The agents were a couple of holes ahead of where the former president was playing golf when they spotted a rifle barrel sticking out of the course shrubbery. The suspect ran off after the agents shot at him but was soon found and captured thanks to information about his vehicle they got from a witness.Law enforcement officials at a Sunday press conference said Trump was about 300-500 yards from where the Secret Service agents engaged the suspect."The Task Force is monitoring this attempted assassination of former President Trump in West Palm Beach this afternoon. We have requested a briefing with the U.S. Secret Service about what happened and how security responded. We are thankful that the former President was not harmed, but remain deeply concerned about political violence and condemn it in all of its forms. The Task Force will share updates as we learn more." Just two months ago, Trump survived an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania. A bullet in that incident, fired from an adjacent rooftop, struck Trump’s ear during his speech before Secret Service agents jumped in to protect the former president.
