Earlier this week, scientists reported dangerous levels of hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen cyanide in the Tijuana River Valley.

National City Councilmember Marcus Bush raised health concerns again Thursday. He said he felt the effects firsthand when he visited the area. “I know because I know my body, and I know what my body was telling me,” he said. “My throat started burning after 30 minutes. It felt like acid reflux.” “But the filter isn't the end-all, be-all,” Bush said. “At the end of the day, we need to solve the root cause of the crisis, which is the sewage.”

On Thursday, a bipartisan group of Congress members requested additional disaster funds to repair and upgrade the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant.They wrote that years of underinvestment have reduced the plant’s capacity. They’re asking for the “highest amount of funding possible” in any upcoming disaster supplemental package.include California’s senators; San Diego Democratic Reps.
