In a statement to Alaska’s News Source, Constant said the reasons for the decision are twofold: qualifications and appointment by the mayor. Cross was first appointed as chief designee in April of this year by current Mayor Dave Bronson, following the retirement of Chief Michael Kerle. She is the first woman to hold the position.
