The airline is reducing the frequency of its new route between San Antonio and Frankfurt to twice a week next summer, down from three times a week now.

Maybe not many Germans want to hang out in San Antonio during its hot, sticky season. Or maybe fewer area travelers are interested in flying nonstop to Frankfurt , Germany , than anticipated. Either way, San Antonio ’s first nonstop flight to Europe , hailed by tourism and economic development officials as a milestone for the city, is being scaled back.

Is San Antonio too hot for German vacationers? Success of nonstop to Frankfurt far from guaranteed. Local officials confirmed the plans Tuesday, a month and a half after celebrating the new service at San Antonio International Airport with a group of German volk musicians, featuring accordion and tuba players in lederhosen, and an elaborate five-tier cake in Terminal A.
