O'Brien was in a meeting about his upcoming hosting gig for the Oscars when his wife, Liza, called to inform him about seeing smoke. Despite being evacuated before, O'Brien initially wasn't overly concerned, thinking it was a common occurrence in Los Angeles .
He went to a hotel that night, fearing the worst for his property, but was relieved to discover his house remained intact. Joining him on the podcast was Sona Movsesian, O'Brien's longtime assistant, who shared a heartbreaking story of her own. Movsesian lost her home in the Altadena area due to the Eaton Fire, describing the destruction as apocalyptic. The series of fires, starting with the Pacific Palisades blaze followed by the Eaton, Hurst, and Kenneth (suspected arson), quickly escalated, becoming the most destructive in Los Angeles County history by January 12th. Over 10,000 structures were reported destroyed, with a tragic toll of 27 confirmed deaths as of January 16th.O'Brien expressed his gratitude towards the firefighters, sharing a photo on social media of himself standing with four firefighters from Redondo Beach. He praised their tireless efforts in battling the blaze and keeping people safe. Other celebrities also shared their experiences and expressed their support for those affected by the fires.
