Deonte Lee Murray was convicted in September of a series of shootings, including one that injured two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in September 2020.

The location near the Compton Metro station where two Sheriff’s deputies were shot was hosed down after an investigation of the crime scene on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies had a chance to speak in court Wednesday, Nov. 1, about the day a 39-year-old Compton man tried to kill them while they sat in their patrol SUV in September 2020 and the impact the shooting still has on their lives.

The location near the Compton Metro station where two Sheriff’s deputies were shot was hosed down after an investigation of the crime scene on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Before sentencing Wednesday, Murray’s attorney, Kate Hardie argued for mitigating factors that included being a child of drug addicts, leading to a childhood of being passed around from family member to family member. He had been shot multiple times and Hardie claimed he had never been shown respect.Judge Connie R.

Prosecutor Stephen Lonseth said Murray blamed the sheriff’s department for Herrera’s death and wanted revenge. Later that same day, Murray drove the Mercedes Benz to the Compton Courthouse and shot a man seated in the driver’s seat of an SUV that Murray thought was an unmarked police vehicle. Hardie said during closing arguments that multiple witnesses said Murray hadn’t slept, was using methamphetamine, drinking Hennessy and living out of his car in the days after Herrera’s death.“They didn’t deserve that and they didn’t cause ,” Quinones said. “You don’t deal with it that way.”
