Two passengers identified as Rhone Baumgartner and Kameron Hartvigson were on board the Bering Air flight that crashed off the coast of Alaska. The U.S. Coast Guard recovered the wreckage and found three bodies, but the remaining seven are believed to be trapped inside. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of a commuter plane crash off the coast of Alaska that tragically claimed the lives of all 10 people on board. Two passengers have been identified as Rhone Baumgartner and Kameron Hartvigson, who were traveling to Nome after working on a heat recovery system in Unalakleet. Their identities were released by the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, as reported by the Associated Press.

The identities of the remaining victims have yet to be disclosed. The U.S. Coast Guard recovered the wreckage of the Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX on sea ice approximately 30 miles southeast of Nome on Friday. A Black Hawk helicopter will be used to remove the wreckage from the water. While three bodies were found inside the aircraft, the Coast Guard reported that the remaining seven people are believed to be trapped inside due to the plane's condition. The severity of the wreckage suggests that survival was impossible. The Coast Guard also confirmed the recovery of an 'item of interest' related to the search, though details remain undisclosed. The flight, originating from Unalakleet and en route to Nome, disappeared about 12 miles offshore. Flight data indicates a 'rapid loss in elevation and rapid loss in speed' at 3:18 p.m. local time on Thursday. Despite this sudden change, no distress signals or messages were received. The Federal Aviation Administration is actively investigating the incident, with a representative from the Aviation Safety Office of Accident and Prevention assigned to the case. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated that the Department of Transportation will provide full support to the investigation. This tragedy marks the third fatal U.S. plane collision in just eight days, following a midair collision near Washington, D.C., on January 29th, and a medical plane crash in Philadelphia on January 31st.
