A heartwarming story of a kitten trapped in a storm drain leads to the rescue of an entire family of feral cats in Central Texas.

Ferallife Guards, a dedicated cat rescue organization, is sharing an inspiring story of a community coming together to rescue a kitten stuck in a storm drain —and how this mission led to the rescue of an entire family of feral cats . Through the power of Trap Neuter Return (TNR), volunteers and local partners are providing life-saving care for homeless cats, but they need the community’s help more than ever due to a major unforeseen challenge.

Late last year, a kitten was found trapped in a storm drain in Central Texas. Rachel Yedanapalli and Tiffany Haag, who had previously been in contact with, reached out to the rescue organization for help. Laurie Frederick, founder of Ferallife Guards, personally went to the scene to assist. 'Using technology, we set up a remote-triggered trap and cameras to monitor the situation,' said Laurie Frederick. 'Our team suspected that there might be more than one kitten, so we began tracking the cats and kittens around the storm drain.' Soon, the rescue team discovered that there were actually five kittens in total, all belonging to a mother cat that had been seen nearby. Thanks to a community partnership with Tiffany and Rachel, along with their neighbors, Ferallife Guards was able to track down and rescue all five kittens. The mission didn’t end with the kittens. The team discovered that the momcat and a dadcat, later named Hugh-mongus, were also part of the family. Hugh-mongus was found to be severely injured and infected, likely due to years of roaming and fighting as an unneutered tomcat. 'He was in rough shape,' said Laurie. 'We knew he needed urgent medical attention, and we quickly made plans to trap both momcat and Hugh-mongus for care.' Ferallife Guards trapped the mother cat first, then set up overnight shifts to trap Hugh-mongus. After several long nights of monitoring, they were able to catch him and bring him to a partner vet for treatmen
