A heartwarming display of community support saw Independence Local School bus drivers recognized for their hard work with nearly $2,000 in gifts.
Drivers for Independence Local Schools were overwhelmed with thanks from the community this Christmas. A community effort, sparked by a single Facebook post recognizing the dedication of the bus driving team, raised nearly $2,000 for the drivers. A school statement called the campaign ‘a heartwarming display of community spirit’ as families across the district shared the original post with their own pledges of support.
Transportation Supervisor Francine Kane said: “The drivers were just floored by our school families' gifts and their kindness!” said Kane. “They were truly touched by this display of community support.” Money raised was distributed to the drivers in the form of $100 Target gift cards and specially crafted Christmas ornaments, and the whole team was treated to a $100 certificate to Romito’s restaurant for a celebratory lunch. The school statement noted the challenging work faced by the drivers including coping with a shortage of drivers and schedule adjustments. It said: “The successful campaign highlighted the strong bonds within the Independence community, demonstrating how collective efforts can make a meaningful impact in showing appreciation for those who ensure students' safe travel to and from school throughout the year no matter what kind of weather or circumstances.” And Bus Five driver Pamela Zakraysek added: “We really do have the best families. We want to thank you all so much for your kindness and your generosity.
