Owen Grubb, a cross-country runner at Minerva High School in Ohio, was killed on October 22 in what has been ruled an accidental death. Since then, almost $25K has been raised for his family.

There has been an outpouring of community support, according to local news outlets. The parents of the West Branch cross-country team—a school nearly six hours from Minerva—raised $1,200, according to News 5 Cleveland.a message to the community, calling Grubb a “fantastic person, teammate, and runner…Owen always looked after his younger teammates and middle school runners…Owen had the heart of a Lion and left a lasting impact on the Minerva Cross Country Family.
In a statement, Minerva superintendent Garry Chaddon expressed his condolences to Grubb’s family and the school community: “We are all grieving the loss of Owen, who was a bright light in our high school and [an] exceptional student athlete. We are keeping our entire school community close in our hearts during this time.”
