Tuesday's committee decision moves the name miyo-wâhkôhtowin Road to council for a final vote later this month. yxe

The committee heard from city staff that a flyer was delivered to residents in 2021, advising that the street would be re-named. The naming advisory group was formed and then held meetings between 2021 and this year; residents were sent another flyer this summer and invited to a community information meeting about the proposed new name.

During questions from committee members, city clerk Adam Tittemore clarified that there is no monetary cost to individual residents on the street associated with changing the name. Rather, he said residents will face “somewhat of an imposition” in terms of time and effort to change their addresses with various service providers.Article content

The city will incur some costs associated with signage, land title changes and other expenses, should the name change receive final approval. Thus far, the renaming process has cost about $15,000, with another $35,000 in costs expected.
