Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said on Wednesday that she did not believe the major revision to official jobs numbers because she had only heard about them from Donald Trump.
The figure cited by Whitworth, however, came from the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. On Wednesday, the bureau said that there were likely 818,000 fewer jobs created in the 12 months through March than had been reported based on government surveys. The release of the revised employment estimates were highly anticipated by Wall Street, investors, and economists. They had been the focus of several analyst reports and stories in the business media over the past week.
