After making what the audience coined as a sexist remark about Australia’s women’s swim team, a broadcaster removed from Eurosport’s 2024 Summer Olympics coverage is now issuing an apology. Longtime swimming commentator Bob Ballard took to social media on July 29 to address the controversy, sharing that it was “never my intention to upset or belittle anyone.”, formerly known as Twitter. “It was never my intention to upset or belittle anyone and, if I did, I apologize. I am a massive advocate of women’s sport.”, “I shall miss the Eurosport team, dearly and wish them all the best for the rest of the Olympics. No further comment will be issued. Thank you.”“Well, the women just finishing up. You know what women are like … hanging around, you know, doing their makeup.” His comment came after the women — Mollie O’Callaghan, Shayna Jack, Emma McKeon and Meg Harris — exited the Paris Aquatic Center after winning a gold medal in the event.Following the comment, fellow commentator Lizzie Simmonds said Ballard’s comment was “outrageous.” She has yet to publicly further comment. Soon after, Eurosport took swift action and dropped Ballard from its coverage. A statement was then released to The Independent. “During a segment of Eurosport’s coverage last night, commentator Bob Ballard made an inappropriate comment.
