Vision 2027 is the utility's plan to be an innovative and efficient supplier of energy.
Extraordinary regional growth is taking place against the backdrop of extreme weather events and a transforming energy industry. CPS Energy is embracing new technologies while also considering the impacts on ratepayers. As San Antonio’s municipally owned electric and natural gas utility, CPS Energy is seeking innovative ways to enhance the quality of life in our growing community. Doing this through community partnerships is at the heart of Vision 2027, our strategic plan for the next five years.
Vision 2027 puts technology at the forefront as we balance providing power through an equity lens while remaining reliable, sustainable and affordable. This plan leverages innovation and balanced solutions to deliver value and resiliency to our customers through improved efficiency, sustainability and risk management. That includes hardening our grid and power-generation capabilities to withstand extreme weather conditions through technology, fuel source resiliency and plant weatherization.
We are also exploring opportunities for a zero-carbon geothermal developmental project that could lead to large-scale energy generation from the Earth’s heat. We signed a 15-year agreement with Quidnet Energy to build a grid-scale, long-duration energy storage system. These projects are designed to diversify our power resources.
In early 2020, with approval and support from our board of trustees and our owner regulator, the city of San Antonio, we supported our customers during the difficult times of the pandemic by suspending disconnections for nonpayment. However, it is time to ask everyone who benefited from the moratorium to address those past-due balances.
