The Washington Commanders needed to win to stay in playoff contention but failed to do so leading to a perplexing postgame press conference.

Rivera suggested in his postgame press conference that he wasn’t aware of the threat of being eliminated from playoff contention before the game. He made the switch to go with Carson Wentz as the starting quarterback over Taylor Heinicke. Washington lost 24-10."We can be eliminated?" Rivera asked after pausing for several moments.According to ESPN, Rivera later said he was frustrated by the question and didn’t have any strategy for them losing because he didn’t think the team would.
