10 tips, tricks and hacks from San Diego Comic-Con veterans, influencers and experts for the best experience at SDCC in 2025.

A view of the crowds of people outside the San Diego Convention Center for Comic-Con 2024. Comic-Con is nearly here. Badges have been retrieved. Hotels have been booked. Daily schedules have dropped. Now what? For the throngs of fans who were able to secure a badge, access to the convention floor means rubbing elbows with influential members of the comic book industry, the best-dressed cosplayers and most avid comic book fans, all in one place.

back in the 70s. What was just a few hundred comic book fans has turned into a four-day bonanza that includes panels, speakers, exclusive merchandise, photo opportunities, happy hours, after-parties and anything else a comic book fanatic could ask for.No list of advice about San Diego Comic-Con would be complete without checking in with the San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog. Editor in chief, Kerry Dixon, and a tight-nit team cover Comic-Con in San Diego all year. Dixon has been going to SDCC since 2010 and advises con-goers to make a plan and to do research ahead of time. “Whether it’s your first or your twentieth, do as much research before hand as you can,” Dixon said. “Comic-Con is all about choices and there are always going to be variables that you just can not control — so what is your plan B? It is always better to kind of know what is going on. Have a plan B, even a plan C, so you can pivot as needed depending on whatever happens at Comic-Con, which could be anything.”Comic-Con has a million and one things to do and see. Experts suggest using social media to connect with artists and brands that may be attending. San Diego native Jennifer Deperio hasn’t missed a San Diego Comic-Con since 2004. She agrees that sticking to a plan and doing research is of the utmost importance, but being flexible can also serve attendees well. “My number one tip is to plan ahead, but plan to have your plans constantly change at the last minute too,” Deperio said in an email. “Go with the flow, don’t get caught up in being upset for missing things or being cut off in line. Make judgement calls on how long you’re willing to wait for things you can and can’t miss.”TV and film actors, pop culture stars and other celebrities to expect in San Diego for Comic-Con 2025“To have a great experience at San Diego Comic-Con, take a shower, put on deodorant, brush your teeth, hydrate, make sure you’re well rested and show up with an open and enthusiastic attitude. Nerdom is very vast, and San Diego Comic-Con brings together people from all walks of the nerd life. Open your mind to enjoy the things that you love, but also find some new things to love as well.”“You need to take care of your feet. I have a different pair of shoes for each day of cosplay and I have a set of insole cushions for each,” he said via email. “The second part is to pace yourself. There is so much at SDCC and no one can do it all. I suffer from chronic pain and it’s easy to push myself too hard if I’m not careful. I prioritize panels so I can get breaks.”“I have found sportswear that helps limit sweating is an absolute necessity. Nike calls it Dri-Fit and other places call it “performance cooling” or describe it as moisture-wicking. No matter who you are, you will be sweating hard. The problem is some areas are air-conditioned, for inside and outside events , so you might find yourself with a soaked cotton shirt and it’s never good to have drenched clothing in a cold environment.”“In reality, the best food at Comic-Con is the one that doesn’t have a huge line. I like barleymash. If you want a quick bite to eat Blind Burro is always good.”“Comic-Con allows you to bring food and drinks inside the convention center, so bring snacks that do not need to be in a refrigerator and a water container, because there are water stations for refills. Also, hotel lobbies are a good place to rest, cool off and get away from the Comic-Con madness.”“Don’t try to do everything! It’s simply impossible. Pick two or three things a day that you simply can’t skip, then let the rest of the day be filled with exploring the convention floor, seeing some smaller panels with industry experts, and making new friends! I’ve met some of the best people at SDCC!”“You never know when you might be standing next to a celebrity in disguise or walking past a line that’s about to open or sneak into a capped panel because you were nice to one of the volunteers. But if you can temper your expectations and open yourself up to the experience, that’s then when the con magic happens. Also, BE NICE TO THE VOLUNTEERS. It’s not their fault you didn’t get that exclusive you were hoping for.”“At the end of the day, being friendly, respectful, and open to meeting new people makes a huge difference. A strong network isn’t just helpful— it’s often the key to an unforgettable SDCC experience.”“All Comic-Con attendees get a free backpack that is an awkward large square with straps not built for comfort. You can spot a SDCC newbie if they use the free backpack all weekend. Just about any backpack off the shelf will be more comfortable than the free one. Backpacks are a huge help to carry snacks, water and whatever you pick up at the convention.”“The best con moments tend to come from the spontaneous “yeses” and trying something new or chatting with the creators about their art or media I’ve stumbled upon. No matter how many off-sites you do, the mountain of SDCC exclusives you can nab, or even if you make it to Hall H, being willing to explore and learn and meet new folks will give you the most successful SDCC. Oh, and definitely bring a reusable water bottle.”“One of the most valuable things I’ve done is build a network of fellow attendees — many of whom I now consider good friends. My own crew — affectionately called the Finesse Crew because we’ve mastered the art of navigating the con and its events — is always monitoring social platforms. When something urgent pops up, someone sends an alert to the group text, and we move. Some of the best connections happen while waiting in lines; after all, you could be standing next to someone for hours. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation. If the vibe is right and you feel comfortable, exchange contact info.”“You won’t have fun if you dwell on what you missed. It can be overwhelming, so only do as much as you’re willing to without stressing. Remember, there’s also fun in spontaneity!”“San Diego Comic-Con is my favorite time of the year! There’s SO much to do. From panels, to activations, to exclusive merchandise, it’s the Super Bowl of fandom! Make sure to attend The Her Universe Fashion Show on Thursday night, it’s one of the must see events of the weekend!”San Diego to charge trash customers $65M for new bins, in latest move on controversial pickup overhaulProblems with quarter system at UC schools were clear from the startTom Krasovic: Padres need a backstop, but potential upgrade comes with a catchSan Diego has passed up offers of free playground and intersection upgrades. A new policy aims to fix that.
