The annual pop culture event has been San Diego fixture since the 1970s

Fans walk to the San Diego Convention Center on the first day of the 2024 edition of Comic-Con to enter the main exhibit hall. The organizers of the annual four-day convention that since the 1970s has grown to be one of the most anticipated events in popular culture announced Tuesday the signing of a new agreement to remain in San Diego through 2027.

Concerns about rising hotel prices and lack of sufficient accommodations for the tens of thousands of fans who show up each year have been a sticking point for organizers. “This event is not just a celebration of creativity and fandom — it’s a major economic driver for our city, supporting local businesses and showing San Diego on a global stage,” Gloria said in a statement.“San Diego and Comic-Con are a shining example of what can be achieved when our tourism community works together,” said Shawn Dixon, board chair of the San Diego Tourism Authority.
