For years, the connection between Frank Miller and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has existed beneath the surface, woven into the very DNA of the franchise. Now, that connection has become official. Miller has drawn his first-ever TMNT cover for IDW Publishing’s milestone Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles No. 300. The reveal, which broke viaMoreover, the significance runs deeper than a simple artist collaboration. When Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the early 1980s as young men in their twenties, Miller’s work on Daredevil was the primary inspiration. The parallels can also be seen by fans like a hero granted abilities through a radioactive accident, guidance from a stern sensei, and a battle against a shadowy ninja clan—the Hand for Daredevil, the Foot for the Turtles. “It was fun to jump into the playground with the Ninjas for this cover and reminisce that they were born by Peter and Kevin as homage to my Daredevil run,” Miller said in a statement. “This one is for the fans.” The cover is part of a massive celebration for IDW’s 300th issue. It counts all TMNT publications dating back to the original Mirage Studios indie comic that launched in 1984. IDW has published the Turtles since 2011. The issue, scheduled for release July 22, also features a never-before-seen cover by Eastman and Laird. Alongside variant covers from J. Scott Campbell and Juan Ferreyra.
