THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has turned down the demand of its partner, Impact Hub Philippines (IHP), in the staging of the 'Pilipinas Debate' in the May 2022 national and local elections to settle its unpaid obligations amounting to P13.3 million.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia on Tuesday said there was still unfinished business that the commission needs to clarify in relation to the results of its internal investigation and considering the fact that public funds were involved in the controversy.'We are determining whether everything was in order or whether something somewhere along the way, serious issues of questionable nature did set in.

Garcia said that he moved for the creation of the investigating panel, which had already submitted its report several months ago.He said that people within and outside the Comelec have been investigated.'However, the en banc returned it to the body with instructions to clearly pinpoint the specific laws and provisions involved, the responsibilities if there be any of certain mentioned individuals and more detailed recommendations based on the facts and the laws applicable.
