The Commission on Elections (Comelec) hopes the Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS) will encourage more Filipinos abroad to participate in the upcoming 2025 polls. In a press conference for the contract signing of the OVCS last Tuesday, Comelec Chairman George M. Garcia lamented the low turnout for voters registration abroad.

The Commission on Elections hopes the Online Voting and Counting System will encourage more Filipinos abroad to participate in the upcoming 2025 polls.

Since the start of the voter registration last February, only around 200,000 Filipinos abroad have registered. The ongoing voter registration will end on 30 September 2024. The new system, which was awarded to the Joint Venture of SMS Global Technologies, Inc. & Sequent Tech Inc., will allow voters to cast their votes through their cellphones, laptops, and tablet devices.

The poll chief is hopeful they can encourage more voters through their massive voters education campaign on internet voting
