THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) will declare Robert 'Pinpin' Uy as the duly elected representative of the first district of Zamboanga del Norte over former congressman Romeo Jalosjos, abiding by a Supreme Court ruling and putting an end to the congressional dispute in the province.

FB Photo'The Comelec en banc agreed, regarding the case of Uy vs Comelec and Jalosjos, the Comelec will abide by the decision of the Supreme Court although it will be subject to motion of reconsideration,' added Garcia.'We will proceed with the proclamation of the winning candidate and annul the proclamation of Jalosjos,' he further said.

But barely a month after Jalosjos assumed his post, the High Court granted Uy's plea and issued a a status quo ante order prior to the Comelec's May 10 and June 7 orders, which prompted the House of Representatives' secretary-general to remove Jalosjos from the roster.The High Court annulled the June 23, 2022 decision of the Comelec proclaiming Jalosjos.On Oct. 16, 2023, the Court en banc declared Uy as the duly elected congressman of the first district of Zamboanga del Norte.
