A fox found in New Braunfels was confirmed to have rabies after it bit someone on Nov. 24.
A Comal County fox recently tested positive for rabies, marking the county’s 23rd confirmed rabies case this year. That’s Comal County ’s highest number of annual rabies cases in the past decade, according to a review of Texas Department of State Health Services data since 2013. The fox was found in New Braunfels after it bit someone on Nov. 24, said Connie Alaniz , the county’s public health epidemiologist.
Hill Country rabies cases continue to climb; officials urge caution Rabies is a viral disease that affects mammals. It can be transmitted to humans from an animal bite and can be fatal. Comal County urges residents and visitors not to hand-feed foxes, raccoons, skunks and bats and to keep garbage in sealed containers to avoid attracting wild animals. Residents who see an animal behaving unusually or who appears to be sick or injured should contact county animal control at 608-2016.
