The Sox can’t ruin your summer, no matter how hard they try. Not this year. Not any year, writes PWSullivan.

White Sox's Billy Hamilton steals second base past Twins second baseman Jorge Polanco during the eighth inning at Guaranteed Rate Field on May 4, 2023.in 12 innings Thursday to end their season-high three-game winning streak.

They know the Sox aren’t going anywhere but still plan to come out and enjoy themselves nonetheless. If the Sox win, that’s just a bonus. So why would anyone come out and watch a Sox team that fell on its face the first month of the season and has little chance of competing in 2023? I sat next to one such fan during the early innings Thursday. The fan, whose first name is Ed, said he bought a box seat behind the Sox dugout on StubHub for $11.63. A bargain, and who knew it would be sunny and in the mid-60s?

Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts has received as much criticism as Reinsdorf the last couple of years, but to his credit he still roams the stands at Wrigley Field on occasion and gives fans a chance to tell him how to run his team. Most fans he meets are polite, as usually happens in face-to-face meetings, as opposed to the anonymous venting that takes place on Twitter. Whether Ricketts listens to grievances is unknown, but at least he gives fans an opportunity to speak their minds.
