Steve Taylor was an apprentice to San Diego's revered 'puppet lady' Marie Hitchcock
in Balboa Park. This time, it will be all his show and his first time back on the theater stage in 46 years.
She shared the Golden Rule of puppetry: “You have to believe they’re alive or your audience won’t believe it.” “When you add a character, you have to really like him, or the audience won’t like him. When you like him, a personality and a voice come easily. It’s almost like love at first sight.” Taylor prides himself in presenting a family friendly show with layers of humor that can anyone from age 3 to 103. “Something may go over the kids’ heads, but the adults will laugh at it,” he says.
Nevertheless, he backed into this career. Taylor’s dream was being a film editor in Hollywood. That’s exactly what he did for 10 years after earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in cinema and performing arts at the University of Southern California.
