Justin Jefferson resembles NFL's best receiver. Josh Allen — as good as he was bad. San Diego's Kevin O'Connell celebrates again.
Perfection isn’t expected of the men and women who officiate the NFL’s fast, complex games. And, Sunday in breezy Buffalo, that’s what happened in a high-stake contest’s desperate final moments.Refs on the field erred by giving Buffalo a critical 20-yard reception as the fast-breaking Bills sought a tying field goal in the final half minute.
In addition, millions of self-deluded Americans wager money on these games in the belief the outcome can be rationally forecast. O’Connell couldn’t challenge the catch call because in the game’s final two minutes, reviews must be initiated by the replay judge. Out of timeouts, O’Connell couldn’t stop the game and thus coax the faulty replay judge into further reviewing the play with benefit of additional camera angles. And, it was first down instead of third-and-2.
Impressively, the Bills burned the scrambling Vikings for a 15-yard gain, leading to Tyler Bass’ 29-yard field goal.Allen showed he’s recovered from an elbow injury, meaning he still gives the Bills their best shot at an NFL title since Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly led them to four Super Bowls.
