Denise Crosby writes: 'Why IS the mayor of the second largest city in the state now suddenly going to work for an Oak Brook real estate law firm?'
Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin has said his main priority is being major, despite joining new law firm.
Why IS the mayor of the second largest city in the state now suddenly going to work for an Oak Brook real estate law firm? I mean, didn’t he just have one foot out the door when he announced in January he was running for governor of Illinois? And I am certain it’s also being discussed by those closest to the mayor’s third floor office at City Hall, who, after his unsuccessful GOP primary adventure, were starting to believe the mayor was back in the saddle again.
So far the man is saying, in essence, what’s the big deal - that he’s always been associated with a law firm, his own, in Aurora, which he’s now washed his hands of – while insisting that his number one priority is mayor.
And in doing so, Irvin got used to all that hobnobbing with the wealthy and influential, no doubt an experience that opened his eyes even more to the possibilities that extend beyond his third floor office in downtown Aurora. His municipal salary of $165,000 is, when all is said and done, peanuts compared to what he would earn in a big Oak Brook firm.Besides, maybe he’s truly had his fill of politics.
