A brief warm-up into the weekend before another cold snap.

More stars tonight but still cold. Chilly and dry for Toys for Tots on Saturday. Warmer by Sunday with some rain by Sunday night.SUNDAY: partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy, windy, milder, rain showers late, high 50.TUESDAY: mostly cloudy, scattered rain showers during the day, becoming wintry mix late, high 52.

WEDNESDAY: mainly overcast, breezy, colder, scattered rain, wintry mix, and snow showers, accumulations unlikely, high 34.The wind has shifted to the southwest and quieted down. That cuts off the lake-effect snow for Northeast Ohio and allows for some less-brutal wind chills across the state. It’s still cold, but not AS cold. The LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING for Ashtabula County will expire at 1AM, unless it’s cancelled earlier because of the wind shift.

High pressure is building into the Ohio River Valley this afternoon and will become our main influence during the evening and overnight hours. Sunshine is breaking out across Ohio as the high scours away some of the clouds. Midday temperatures are well-below average, though, mainly in the upper-20s and lower-30s across the state, with wind chills in the teens.

The same high pressure allows for partly cloudy conditions on Saturday and some slightly milder temperatures. The breeze from the southwest will be helpful. As the high slides to the east on Sunday, it makes way for our next storm system, coming in from the northwest. Another strong low will drop into the Great Lakes late Sunday night, pulling rain and showers into the state in the evening. Temperatures will be warm enough for rain instead of snow and the wind will become gusty again.

The cold front pushes through the state on Tuesday, continuing our scattered rain showers. But as colder air slides into the region, some of that precipitation will transition to wintry mix and snow showers late Tuesday night. Scattered rain, mix, and snow showers will continue into Wednesday with much colder temperatures. Accumulations are unlikely.
