Over the past year, officers here have undergone intense training in an effort to help victims. On Tuesday afternoon, they revealed some of what they've learned. Officers point out it's another tool to provide a life-line for those looking to get out of dangerous situations.

“Strangulation is a red flag for further, more lethal violence, so it was critically important for the City to act swiftly and put the right tools in place to respond to these heinous crimes as soon as we got the green light from the legislature,” Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein said. In 2023, Ohio legislators provided an outlet to police by mandating that strangling someone a felony. It makes the penalties stiffer, providing prosecutors with more leverage to keep abusers away from victims.used to respond to violent felony strangulation cases.
