Community members gathered Sunday night to peacefully protest the mistrial of former Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Meade.

A group of at least 50 marched down Dennison Avenue on to High Street, protesting the mistrial and demanding justice for Casey Goodson Jr. on Feb. 18, 2024. Ramon Obey says they want prosecutors to refile the case so that the Goodson family can have some kind of justice.

Obey is the executive director of an activist organization calledSunday, Obey says nearly 20 different organizations have signed a letter in support of a new trial. We're here; we see the injustices that happened in our court system," Obey said. "It's been four long years. This is a murder that took place Dec. 4, 2020." Obey joined a group of at least 50 to march down Dennison Avenue on to High Street, protesting the mistrial and demanding justice for Goodson."The trial of Deputy Jason Meade was declared a mistrial. This is obviously not the outcome we were hoping for. There are no winners in this matter. The Goodson family lost their loved one and their lives will never be the same. Deputy Meade was forced out of his career and his life has changed forever. But we remain confident that Deputy Meade’s actions were 'objectively reasonable' under the Graham v. Connor standard and were therefore lawful. We now wait to see if the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office decides to refile this case. It is our sincere hope that it has learned from the past and determines not to.We are thankful for the jury’s time and Judge David Young for his professionalism." Toth said he was unavailable for an interview Sunday, but he would be willing to talk about the case in the future. He says they'll be sending their letter to the prosecutor's office, Friday. You better be for the people, or we are coming. we will show up to that office, we will find where you live, we will hold you accountable," he said.several times over the weekend to see if they planned on monitoring the gathering on Sunday. We also asked if there were any incidents. They have not responded.
