A pilot program aimed at solving non-fatal shootings in Columbus is set to expand after city leaders said it has dramatically improved case clearances in the Linden area, which has seen more than its fair share of gun violence.

“Linden going to be linden. I stay in the house, I am in my 50's, I don't be dealing with all that nonsense out here," said resident Paul Holland. Last year, the city invested in a pilot program that assigned Columbus police teams to investigate non-fatal shootings in a similar manner to how homicide cases are handled. City Hall said the approach has paid off with a sharp increase in non-fatal shootings being solved in Linden. “Our city clearing rate for non-fatal shootings around 50-per cent, in linden it's been 95-per cent,” Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said. Holland said he supports the effort. “I am happy for them, if they can get shootings off the street, cool with me,” he said. “I don't want shootings around me.” City Hall now plans to expand the program to another part of Columbus, with leaders now deciding which neighborhood will be added next. “Boom, boom, it would be five or seven shots in a row,” said Dottie Swanson, who lives in Columbus police five precinct, which is just northeast of downtown, and not far from where the pilot program is in operation. Neighbors in precinct 5 have reported 15 felonious assaults this year, the most of any precinct in Columbus, with the majority of those felonious assaults being shootings. Swanson said the non-fatal shooting program would be a welcome addition. “I think so,” she said. “Because there would be more police here, they would know more about the community.”Police statistics show the crime is declining overall in the city. So far in 2026, there have been 109 felonious assaults reported to police, compared with 121 during the same time period last year.Swanson said she hopes her neighborhood is next. “Anything for them to stop the violence and be more in the community, it would help,” she said.Developing...We are following a major closure on the southwest outerbelt in Columbus. As of 1pm on March 10th, I-270 is closed in both directions between GeorgeA 20-year-old Dublin man is in jail after being charged with arson in connection with a fire that damaged the deck of a home under construction, and investigatoThe beaver may soon be building in Richland County.A petition for annexation was filed last Friday with the City of Mansfield, Richland County, and Madison andOhio State President Walter “Ted” Carter Jr. has resigned after disclosing to university trustees that he had an inappropriate relationship with someone.
