As more and more people move to Columbus, there's a lack of housing, especially affordable housing.
Monday night, six pieces of legislation were introduced to councilmembers during their regular meeting, to change the code. They are expected to vote on the legislation next week.
The new zoning code would impact how and where structures are built, everything from their heights to designs. It also includes density and parking lot guidelines. Mayor Ginther said Columbus needs 200,000 more units in the next 15 years to keep up with the growth. He predicts the changes to the zoning code will allow 88,000 units to be built in the next 10 years.
One woman spoke out at Monday night's City Council meeting, asking council members to table the legislation for now.
