The resolution was passed unanimously Monday evening.
Before calling for a vote, Council President Shannon Hardin said this resolution is the right thing to do.
Council's resolution comes on the same day as the United Nations Security Council issued its first demand for a cease-fire in Gaza. Since then, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed its war in Gaza, in which at least 30,000 Palestinians have died, will continue until"total victory" against Hamas.
