Columbus City Council honored a city employee this week for what leaders described as an act of courage and compassion that helped save a young woman’s life. Charles Coleman, an employee with the Department of Water and Power, was recognized for helping a young woman who was contemplating taking her own life.
Coleman guided her to safety and stayed with her until first responders arrived.“But I also, when we talk all the time about we have 9000 city employees that don't get enough love and appreciation for who they are. Mr. Coleman, this is who our employees are. They are superheroes in big and small ways,” Hardin said.“What happened that day wasn't something I planned for or expected. I simply acted in the moment in the best way I knew how. I believe most people would have done the same thing if they were in my position,” Coleman said. “Saving that young woman's life is something I'll carry with me forever. But this recognition reminds me that we're all connected, and that even the small decisions and critical moments can make a lasting difference.”Coleman added that he hopes the recognition encourages others to step up and help when they see someone in need.A body found floating in Big Walnut Creek by passerby Sunday has been identified as Angela Fair.
