Wed, March 20th 2024 at 8:56 AMA Columbia man will spend up to seven years in prison in connection to a 2022 carjacking attempt.
According to the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, 28-year-old Aryton Miller was sentenced Monday to 2 to 7 years in prison for charges of attempted robbery of a motor vehicle and attempted theft.PREVIOUS COVEREAGE | Man charged after allegedly attempting to steal running car, police say “This crime happened in broad daylight when a woman and her daughter should be safe,” said prosecuting Assistant District Attorney Christopher Miller, according to a press release from the DA. “He ruined this family’s sense of security forever.”
The DA said defense counsel and Miller asked for a mitigated sentence due to the fact that he is currently undergoing treatment for drug use, but Miller presented Miller's alleged lack of remorse and previous record as reason for harsher sentencing. “Part of recovery is making amends for what you did during your addiction,” said Lancaster County Judge Jeffery, according to the DA.
