The Foyle MP took over the role from Dr Alasdair McDonnell in 2015
SDLP leader Colum Eastwood is set to announce his resignation from the post. The Foyle MP has been the leader of the party since 2015 and is expected to make the announcement at a press conference on Thursday, according to The Irish News.
He served as MLA for Foyle from 2011 until he was elected to Westminster in a landslide victory in 2019. Mr Eastwood will become the second party leader to resign in recent days with the UUP's Doug Beattie announcing his resignation last week.
