BREAKING: Hundreds of homes destroyed by the MarshallFire near Boulder. The latest:
The Marshall Fire spread rapidly into suburbs of Boulder and Denver and burned hundreds of homes.One officer received minor injuries in the firefight.
The Mitchell Fire exploded to 1,600 acres after being sparked just after 11 a.m. local time. It then burned east into heavily populated suburban areas and burned at least 370 homes in the Sagamore subdivision of Louisville and 210 others in old town Superior, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle said.The entire towns of Louisville, which has population of about 21,000, and Superior, with 13,000 residents, were evacuated.
Fire crews said they didn't think they'd be able to begin to contain the blaze until winds died down. Pelle said officers and firefighters had to evacuate themselves after being overrun by the flames.
