Colorado’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.7% in March, down from 4% in February, as employers continued to hire workers at a strong pace, although not as robustly as in February, according to a monthly update from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment .

Private-sector employers added 5,100 non-farm jobs last month, while government employers added 700, for a combined 5,800 jobs. Monthly gains were strongest in leisure and hospitality at 4,200; professional and business services at 1,300, and manufacturing at 1,000. Construction firms shed 2,300 jobs, but bad weather on the week the survey was taken may have contributed to that decline, said Ryan Gedney, a senior economist with the CDLE, on a news call Friday morning.

“Colorado is only one of 13 states to have returned to pre-pandemic levels,” Gedney said, adding the country as a whole has reclaimed 93% of the jobs lost at the start of the pandemic.
