The Colombian government has agreed to accept all deported Colombian nationals from the United States, including those arriving on U.S. military aircraft, under terms set by former President Trump. This agreement comes after Colombian President Gustavo Petro initially refused to accept deportation flights and threatened counter-sanctions. The U.S. government had threatened to impose tariffs and visa sanctions if Colombia did not comply.
The Colombian government “agreed to all” of President Donald Trump’s terms regarding the “unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia” who are being deported from the United States.that based on the agreement, “fully drafted IEEPA tariffs and sanctions” would be “held in reserve” and not signed unless the Colombia government failed to honor the agreement.
“The government of Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump’s terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on U.S. military aircraft, without limitation or delay,” Leavitt said in a statement. “Based on this agreement, the fully drafted IEEPA tariffs and sanctions will be held in reserve, and not signed, unless Colombia fails to honor this agreement.
In response to Petro criticizing the U.S. for treating “Colombian migrants as criminals,” and announcing that he was refusing “entry of American planes carrying Colombian migrants” until the U.S. established “a protocol for the dignified treatment of migrants,” Trump intervened and threatened to impose several measures such as 25 percent tariffs “on all goods” coming into the U.S.
-Emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States. In one week, the 25% tariffs will be raised to 50%.
