David Mundee Houston Academy scored two batters into its game against Wicksburg Friday afternoon in the Terry Collins Memorial Tournament at Dothan’s James Oates Park.
Houston Academy, the visiting team against Wicksburg, scored its run quickly. Mary Suzan Aman ripped a triple down the left-field line and scored on an Emily Adams sacrifice bunt a batter later. Coach Cox said he planned to pitch both during the game. In fact, he hopes to utilize four pitchers for the rest of the season.
After scoring in the first inning, Houston Academy threatened in the second inning with one-out singles by Jadyn Rausch and Mallory Magrino, but Wicksburg’s Ellie Cox got two straight strikeouts to end the inning. Whitman was the winning pitcher, working two scoreless and hitless innings with six strikeouts and one walk.
Ansley Reeves drilled a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning for the other Wildcat runs. Long’s Whitehead belted a two-run homer in the top of the first for the Rebels and Carlie Davis added a run-scoring single in the third.Frey was the winning pitcher, working two scoreless innings of relief with one hit and one walk. She struck out two.
Hutto hit a solo homer in the first, a two-run homer in the second and a two-run-scoring single in the third inning in her three plate appearances.
