Collin Morikawa had some tough shots in the first round of the Genesis Invitational that reminded him of last year's Open.

Collin Morikawa finished the first round of the 2025 Genesis Invitational in a tie for 20th place, five shots off the lead. Morikawa faced some tricky shots due to the weather conditions and not everything went his way. After his performance on Thursday at Torrey Pines, Morikawa was in good spirits despite the difficult afternoon, and was asked for one word to sum up his day.'Neutral,' Morikawa said.'You know, it was a grind for me so it wasn't like I played well.

That's a hole where it still plays tough, but normally you're hitting 8-iron with just normal winds, not cold.'So you just kind of get this mix of the front nine, there's only a couple holes that are really, really gettable and scorable, 6 being one of them, and then the rest of them you're just in that stretch of 9, 10, 11, 12, and even 13. No. 13 you've got to hit really, really quality shots to have even a look at birdie.
