Courses will include those related to financial and digital literacy, GED preparation as well as those for family care, Walker said.Additionally, a portion of the grant will be used to fund training for people incarcerated at the Collin County jail. Mahalia Baldini, Texas Workforce Commission’s adult education and literacy director, said up to 20% of the grant can be used for corrections education.The federal government funds a large portion of the annual budget the state workforce commission uses for adult education and literacy grants. The state also funds a part of the grant. The amount that is allocated each year is determined by the U.S. Department of Education.

In April 2023, the county jail announced that it would participate in the IGNITE initiative, which is designed to promote educational programs for jail populations to reduce crime recidivism.
