The broken road at Km 109.378, Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan, near Riverside Mart, is expected to reopen on January 13.
Public Works Department Ranau Chief Alvonna Farhanah Jammy said, however, it would be opened only for light vehicles. “The route will be opened for vehicles below eight tonnes and this is subjected to the weather conditions. For vehicles weighing eight tonnes and above, they still have to use the alternative route of Jalan Marak-Parak, Kota Marudu,” she said.According to Alvonna, the stretch will be opened to all types of vehicles on January 18.
The RM150,000 bridge, being built by the Malaysian Army Lokawi, will act as a temporary crossing for villagers as well as school children, instead of the makeshift bamboo crossing built recently by the villagers themselves.Construction of the suspension bridge is expected to take two weeks, with the allocation to be channelled from the State Natural Disaster Fund. A new RM500,000 concrete bridge has been approved and the District Office is studying its design before implementation.
